Three on Thursday

Joining Carole and friends for Three on Thursday, today with three things on our wedding anniversary.

It's our 38th anniversary (which sounds like forever)!

Several people in our families thought that we shouldn't get married on the 13th because the date would be unlucky. Luckily, there wasn't really a choice because we were living in Florida, John was working on his master's degree and only had this one weekend between spring and summer semesters, and I only had three days of vacation from my job. My parents were not happy that we were "living in sin" (it was 1981 and they were traditional), so they accepted that it was better to get married on the only weekend we could, however unlucky, than continue our living together arrangements.

I wish I could go back in time to our wedding reception. It wasn't big, but all the people that I loved most were there in that one room. It went by in a blur, and I don't remember many details, but I would love to do it again and really pay attention to each and every person. So many people are gone now that it's a little bittersweet looking back at photos. But, hey, we were lucky enough to have had that party once and it was wonderful.

Head on over to Carole's for more Three on Thursday thoughts.

  1. Happy anniversary! What a trip those photos are! Obviously the 13th wasn't unlucky at all for you two; instead, you made it a day to be happy. (My brother is getting married later this year on Pearl Harbor Day. He said he thought there should be a happy reason to remember the date!)

  2. Happy Anniversary! You look so happy in those photos ... and wow, I love your wedding dress and veil - especially considering 1981 ;-) Best wishes for many more happy years together!!

  4. Oh I love these photos Bonny (that bow tie!!!) And you really do look so happy. Our reception was small, too, and I don't remember much about it - I may have been in shock - lol. (We've got you beat by one year!) Happy Anniversary!

  8. Happy Anniversary, Bonny! How lovely and happy you look. We also got married in 1981 (August) . . . and your guests/attire look so very . . . similar . . . to what I see in my own wedding album! (We also "lived in sin" . . . and it bothered my mom so much. Funny times.) I hope you and John have a wonderful day! Sending you all the best anniversary wishes. XO

  9. Happy Anniversary! I love seeing your wedding pictures as we have none! (no wedding party). We got married in 1980 (eloped) because my parents were not happy about me moving in with Smith instead of getting married, so, Vegas, baby!

  15. Happy Anniversary, Bonny! 38 years does seem like a long time, but it went by in a blur, didn't it? If only you had known all the places and things that would happen in your life then, but it was quite an adventure, I am sure. And the adventures continue! I hope you had a great anniversary.
