There was knitting (accompanied by a delightfully relaxing hot toddy).
There was cookie baking.
Because I had promised to make these for him back in November, Pickle Egg Rolls were finally prepared and fried for Justin. The verdict: a little weird, but still tasty. I would make them again.
And lastly, I was fascinated again by the sun-lit, sparkly frost on the windows. After more snow and ice today, I think this beautiful frost may start melting towards the end of the week.
I hope your weekend was a good one, too!
The snow and ice and frost really make for some beautiful photos, that's for sure! (Your frost pictures are just lovely.) I'll be happy for a warming reprieve. It's so hard to just get outside -- to take the dogs out for a walk, for example -- because the piles of snow are so high and the streets are so slippery. Ah, winter. So glad you got to try the pickle-rolls -- and even gladder that Justin was there to try them out. XO
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to get some ice crusted object photos today - as it is raining and instantly freezing this morning. Happy Monday, Bonny!
ReplyDeletePickled egg rolls - makes my mouth go ewwww. But I would have tried them.
ReplyDeleteNice quiet weekend for us too. We went to the new Star Wars movie, with popcorn for supper.
Knitted and read, nothing new which is fine with me.
The frost reminds me of my childhood in WI, drawing on the frosted windows. There were storm/winter windows on most but one second story room, a big closet off my bedroom which couldn't be reached with a ladder, it was the most excellent place to daydream of fairies and frosted lands far away. I'd make thumbprints and flying wings off them. But, oh, it was so cold and let the winter breeze come in. Still, good memories for me.
I thought the pickle egg rolls were a bit strange when Justin sent me the recipe, but I was willing to make them for him. I love your stories about your frost drawings! I may have to draw a few myself as my frost starts to melt this week.
DeleteBeautiful frost pictures Bonny - love those. I always liked looking at frost on windows when I was growing up (I'm sure my parents were less thrilled with ice on storm windows...). Those pickle egg rolls just seem weird! What kind of pickles did you use?
ReplyDeleteThe ice/snow mix is supposed to start here just in time for rush hour this afternoon! Oh Joy!
I think those egg rolls sound pretty good. I'm a fan of reuben egg rolls myself! I tried to take pictures of the frost on the inside of my windows in our mudroom but I didn't capture it like you did. Here's to a January thaw!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful weekend. Mine was much too busy so my re-entry to the work week is going to be tough.
ReplyDeletePickled Egg Rolls put me in mind of fried pickles, and now I wish I had one.
ReplyDeleteI woke this morning to 33 degrees, overcast skies, and rain... after a couple of weeks of sub-zero temps, it felt downright balmy when I took my dog out!
ReplyDeleteI think those egg rolls look like they would be delicious! I had a similar weekend but did brave the outside for a dog walk yesterday when it had warmed up to...10.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of pickle egg rolls. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteIt should be interesting to see what weather we get tonight. Glad to be able to just stay home when it gets "ugly" outside.
It finally warmed up here and then came the rains. I'm not complaining! It is so nice to be in the 40's! I am going to do my best to enjoy these temps as a new cold front comes through the end of the week with lots of temps below freezing again. Your frost pictures are so lovely, but I am sure you will be glad for the frost to go away for a while. Your weekend sounds like a perfect way to stay cozy with a toddy, knitting, baking, and family time. I hope your weather improves before you get cabin fever, Bonny. Happy Monday, and I hope your week will be filled with peace in your thoughts and your heart!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite envious of your 40s, but have high hopes we'll be there by the end of the week. Snow, ice, and freezing rain is just starting, but I've got plenty of work and no where that I have to be. Thank you for your lovely wish for a peace-filled week; that is one of the nicest things I've heard and is going to carry me through this week. The same to you, Becky!
DeleteIt's above freezing here for the first time in a while and we're all talkin' about the heat wave!!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the "real feel" be warmer than the actual ... of course once you're into single digits - positive or negative - I don't think it matters much! we are thankfully above freezing here right now, otherwise the rain that's falling would be making a big ol' mess (not that I might be wishing a bit of wintry travel nonsense for a certain visitor we're "lucky" enough to be hosting tonight ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour ribbing looks like it will have the perfect stretch to it. I'd like anything deep fried right about now. Its been years.
ReplyDeleteFelt nice and warm at the barn today instead of frozen and freezing
I am loving this yarn, mcn from the now defunct Verdant Gryphon, that is making for some lovely knitting and stretchy ribbing. Enjoy any warmth you can find after all that cold!
DeleteSounds like you had a nice cozy weekend. After two weeks of single digit and subzero temps, we have had a warm up. Thirty eight degrees felt positively balmy. Are you knitting another cowl? The color is lovely. And thank you for such beautiful photos of frost. Winter does have a few perks.
ReplyDeleteYour frost pictures are magical with the sun shining through adding that touch of sparkle, but, oh my, they remind me of just how cold it must get for frost to form on the windows and stay. We are not having much of a winter. We get a little storm, perhaps a smattering of rain or snow and then it is back in the 40s again. Today we will be around 48! I no longer believe the weather people when the say a real storm is coming.
ReplyDeletePickle Egg Rolls?! Um, no. Hope Ryan was pleased as punch that you made them for him!
ReplyDeleteI have never had a picked egg roll but I love pickles and I love egg rolls so I bet you I would eat them and like them :) You are such a fun mom!
