Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

I didn't even try to resist. When you're feeling inspired and excited, that's the time to cast aside the fiddly beads from last week and cast on with new yarn. I've always wanted to knit a gradient Hitchhiker, so from just two starting stitches I'm up to 15 teeth. I'm anxious to see how the gradientness (gradientosity? gradientiality?) plays out, so stay tuned.

The new and shiny also captured my attention in reading. I was all set to start Hillary Clinton's What Happened, but I got an email that my Overdrive request for it won't be ready until next week. (edit: It's here this morning, and I've just downloaded it, so today I'll be raptly listening to Hillary explain to me what happened!) I've been waiting for the publication of Little Fires Everywhere since January so that's what I'm listening to. It's set in the planned community of Shaker Heights, which wants to promise its residents “protection forever against…unwelcome change” and “a rather happy life”. What could possibly go wrong?!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  2. I can't wait to see how your gradient knit works - I don't think I've seen one done in gradient yarn.

And I'm always a fan of blue ...

  7. The same book pile up is going on with me! What Happened was downloaded on my kindle yesterday and I was notified that The Heart's Invisible Furies is ready for me to pick up at the library! I love the color of your shawl, it will be fun to see how the gradient knits up!

  11. It's all your fault, Bonny, I am reading Sourdough. It is quite the little quirky, but engaging, book. A quick read. After that, probably The Chalk Pit by Elly Griffiths. I really enjoy her Ruth Galloway books. I bet that cobalt blue yarn gazing will improve your mood! Keep us posted on progress in all arenas. The quotidan at your place is always interesting.

    1. Sourdough is indeed a quirky read, but I just found myself being carried along by the story (and inspired to make some sourdough starter of my own, with bread to follow). "The quotidan at your place is always interesting" just made me laugh and made my day! Maybe I can tell you about having to clean out my big freezer full of garden produce when it failed this afternoon!

    2. OH NO! I hate it when that happens. I hope you were able to resolve the problem quickly and didn't lose any of your beautiful produce!

  12. Oh what a beautiful blue, I do so like gradient yarns. I am eager to start something new in knitting, it sort of has been an unraveled day (could be the restless sleep last night) so a big-needle-easy-to-handle project is just what I need.
My reading is also a bit unraveled, too many choices, too many books in the pile. I'm not sure why but racism is in my radar, I've started "The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide, White Rage". I am so ignorant of it all, and this book is so in depth and one needs to go line-by-line. Then I have been into "Eleanor Oliphant" and it makes me curious and smiling but also wondering what makes the world go round and recognize people as they truly are. What a conundrum.
I might go take a nap or do the dishes, . . . easy choice!

    1. The Unspoken Truth ... Racial Divide book does sound deep. I think you may have hit the nail on the head when you wondered why the world and people are as they are - it certainly is a conundrum, and it would be so nice if we could all just get along. Maybe more naps and dishwashing would help. :-)

  13. I always love knitting something with color-changing yarns -- they just keep me knitting so I can see what happens NEXT! I'm slogging through another not-my-book selection for my book group. (I know. But I really like the woman IN my book group.) I can't WAIT to dig in to some of the new books coming out this month!

  14. Your bluetiful Hitchhiker is going to be fun to watch. I hope you'll show us the minutes the colors start to change. Our book club selection is always something one needs to read in-depth and I'm working my way (again) through this month's choice. Next I shall read something more "fun" or maybe some poetry.
